Default 2000 CBR Front Sprocket Clicking

I am new to motorcycles and I need some help diagnosing a problem with my chain/front sprocket/gears.
When getting up to speed in first or second gear I hear a slight knocking/slipping of a moving part that seems to be connected to the chain (I want to say its comming from the front sprocket or even the gearbox.), I have been trying to look at how the gears are lubed and how to check/fill it if need be. I want to add that the chain on the bike is fairly old maybe even stock, I have ordered a new chain already, does anyone think that this may solve the problem? Please ask any questions and I will get back to them, I really need some help. My bike is my transportation to college 30 minutes away.

-Thanks

it's really hard to explain noises. if you're getting a new chain, you'll need to change the sprockets as well.

I found some chains on the net, but like I said I am no good at these types of things. Of these chains and sprockets, which ones would be close or exact as factory so that I wont have to change my rear sprocket (or should I change front and rear if I change a chain?)

I have a 2000 Honda CBR600f4

This is the front sprocket I found that I belive is a stock replacement, could someone please correct me if it is not.

If it is a constant click, it could be the plastic speedometer drive that attaches to the front sprocket nut. If it is not constant, it could be a master link on the chain that is coming around and hitting something. On my 1000F, I would just put it on the centerstand and spin the rear wheel while listening to the front sprocket. Maybe you can put yours on a stand or lift.

just put the kickstand down and have someone balance the bike on it, then spin the tire and listen, i did the same thing and pinpointed 2 links that were stretched too far. I needed a new chain so.

OK, so my chain is very very old, this could be the cause of the clicking? Thanks SOOOOO much for the replies, I'm going outside to check these things out right now.

EDIT: slowpoke, to narrow it down for you... I only hear the clicking when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear, now I cant tell you if I dont hear it after that because my exhaust muffles alot of sounds... But im almost positive it only makes the clicking when reving up the engine and it goes away once I maintain a constant speed.
