Well the advantage is you can take out and add washers to fine tune to the height you like, you can only go so far with the front end [if you just chasing a setup, not going for the actual height difference]. I've read that earlier model F4i's had shorter shock mount bolts so you'd need a newer style with the long mounting bolt [or is it technically a stud? whatever] but I don't know when they changed it over.

No I mean the shock mount in the rear. When I said the front I was looking at this mod from my point of view: setting it up for riding style. The only reason I raised the rear is because I couldn't lower the front end enough to get the geometry I wanted. If your doing this just because you want the rear end higher and not to tune the suspension then I don't see any benefit to the shims vs some sort of link. Anyways the shock mount in the rear has a built in bolt or stud, whatever you want to call it. If you need the longer bolt then you need the entire link as its one piece.
