Default Pull fairings to change air filter?

Somebody tell me it isn't so... Was hoping to check or change the air filter on my 2001 F4I and it appears that I have to remove the fairings, can someone let me know if this is the case? I realize that I have to prop up the fuel tank approximately 10" to gain access and the manual doesn't makeit clear if both fairings need to be removed. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this one guys.

When i replaced my CCTL i only had to remove the brake side fairing and i got access to the air filter... i don't think you have to take your fairings off at all tho... just the ram air duct covers i think.

you dont have to .. just need someone or something to hold the gas tank up.. I used a piece of 2x4 but not too long because it'll be the way when you try to remove the philip head screws..

Thanks Al (QuickNDeadly), looks pretty easy after studying the diagrams and reading the explanation that you provided, will give it a try tomorrow afternoon.
