Default Oil Filter Change

Ok so you are all probably going to laugh, but how do I get the oil filter off of my 97 F3? I cant get an oil filter wrench over it because it wont fit due to the itty bitty space betweenthe filterand the pipes. I am assumingI need a different oil filter wrench, right?

You need the smaller wrench. It does fit.

Have you tryed using your bare hand? Shouldnt ever be tighter than that. Worse case you can punch a screwdriver in the side of it to break it ... I had to do this on my F4i this spring from the last person over tightening it.[:@]

If you go this route, be very carefull and try to keep it to the end of the filter for the engine case has threads at least 2in deep into the filter.

I use adjustable pliers to twist it off.
On another bike of mine there was even less room,
and I took an old leather belt around it.
Put the end through the buckle so that it would clinch down tighter as I twisted it.
"Poor man's oil filter wrench", I called it.
But it worked like a charm.

Also, when installing the new one, tighten by hand only.

that's a good idea. I used a standard car filterwrench and got it in there alright
