I ran over a screw, and needed to plug my tire as well. I bought pocket tire plugger kit that works aweseome. THen made the trip to the shop to get some new rubber.

Get some new rubber do not ride on that thing ASAP

My rear tire has had a plug in it for over a year and never had a problem. IMO its fine to plug it like a car tire but do whatever you want.

The same thing happened to me with a NEW tire on my 900rr (back in the day) and I plugged it.

I really only used it as basic transportation (never dragged a knee and rarely did wheelies) and the plug held up perfectly. It's not the safest, but its the cheapest!

Wow I've never owned a rear tire for more than a year. But to answer the question, out of the 6 rear tires I've had on my bike, 4 of them have been tires that a customer brought in practically brand new with a hole in it. I replace them like they ask and then plug/patch from the inside and put them on my bike. I still get the regular mileage out of them and have had no problems from leaking.

I got a nail in my front and decided to go ahead and replace both tires and keep the rear as a spare. I got a set of m3's for 239 shipped off ebay.
