Default PC III installation question

I have a 2005 CBR f4i. Do I need to loosen the gas tank to connect the PC III? I couldn't get the plug to disconnect for some reason. This pissed me off because I figured it would be like a 20 minute installation (if that) but no matter what I did I couldn't disconnect the plug under the gas tank to install the wiring harness. Any ideas?

I have an '01, and I loosened the left fairing, and propped up the gas tank so I actually had enough room to work. Took MAYBE 30 minutes start to finish. Take a look at your PCIII and how it would connect if you made a loop with it. That's what I did. That way you'll know what to push to make it release. Good Luck!

+1....lift the tank a little, move that rubber flap out of the way, then it's a piece of cake.

Agreed with all of the above.

When I first started to install the PCIII on my F4i I thought I'd make it real clean and run the wire inside the frame. Don't bother. The plug just won't fit through some of the small gaps. Instead, run the wire run on top of the frame and under the gas tank on the left side of the bike. just loosen all of the tank screws and lift the tank just enough to shove the wire back behind the rubber feet that the tank rests on. Be careful not to lift the tank too far or you might pull of some hoses. Pull the big black rubber flap up to get to the actual plugs. Once plugged in just use a long flat head screw driver to carefully shove the rubber flap back into place.
