Default Exhaust installation question

I just purchased a danmoto slip on and have a question about the installation. When I removed the factory exhaust from the header, there is some kind of heat shield around the header that makes the header a different diameter than the slip on. I don't know if I should remove this shield or just expand the new exhaust pipe. I assume the wrap was there to keep heat from the cat from transferring to the header or vice versa.

Any advice would be appreciated. I am running a 2006 F4i.

Thanks.

If it the same as the 01 it is a gasket.
It just ensures a good seal at the mid-pipe, You can try to remove it from your stock exhaust or pick one up at the local stealership for a couple bucks.
