You could also try and locate a lower temp fan switch. One that kicks in earlier and keeps temps away from magical number that you said problem arrives at. Or run some water wetter in with your coolant. It actually (in my personal experience) drops temps by as much as 10 degrees. Just a thought...

fan turns on at 234ish, off at 229/230ish....

I will try the water wetter... any specific brand? (Im unfamiliar with it)...

Also, lets say i add the wetter, or up my idle a notch.. if the oil light stops turning on only because I have prevented the bike from reaching the 'magical temp', have I really fixed the problem? Or am I just kinda half way doing it?

If adding the wetter works, then I guess I won't worry about it.. But in my experience, side stepping the real issue only creates bigger issues down the road...

Will long term damage be done if I don't find the real problem?

When does the factory settings turn the fan on?

I'm pretty sure my fan switch is not OE..

found some mixed reviews about the water wetter... i heard that Royal Purples and WaterWetter both lead to gunk build up in coolant tanks.. zerex might be the best route...
cbr900racer77 do you have any input on brands?

Go with the reviews on the coolant additives. I haven't used it long enough to have a long-term opinion. And yes, it's pretty much a band-aid and not a fix for the problem. But if your "quick fix" is getting light off, it's safe for now til you can locate the real culprit. I'd attach a good quality oil pressure gauge to it and see how far it's dropping when it gets that warm.
