Default oil change question

alright, this is probably a dumb question, and i think i know the answer, but i figured i would check...

changing the oil, do you need to use a rear stand so the bike is level and all the oil is drained? or did honda actually think ahead and locate the drain plug in an appropriate position allowing average joes like me without rearstands to DIY??

Edit: Removed stupid question about oils... used the search button

Easy DIY job. - Oil drain is in the lower left side of the engine (Conveniently where the engine naturally leans when on the kickstand.)

I found lots of DIY writeups and even videos if you search a bit, but it's just like a car - warm it up a bit, pull the plug and loosen the fill hole to let it drain, remove filter, lube gasket on new filter, replace oil filter, Put in recommended amount of oil (Look in manual - most are 3.5 quarts or so) - Start it - wait for pressure light to turn off (Better happen in the first 15-20 seconds of running). - Let it idle for a little bit (Minute or two - Shut it off - have someone help straighten it up (Bike has to be straight up and down to get a read in the sight glass) and top off till it's in the range in the glass.

Get a filter/socket adapter - makes getting the filteron/off and torqued properly easier.

I used a Mobil 1 filter (Don't remember the number) that was a little longer than the factory honda one.

As for oil - pick what you like - I believe it really doesn't matter so long as it's Motorcycle oil (Don't use auto oil) and you change it per manual specs or annually. (I used Amsoil MCFQT-EAlast time)

Don't need a rear stand but would make things a lot easier/convenient.

It's pretty simple, don't even need to take off any fairings

Rearstand does make it easier.

I found it helpful to fill the new filter with oil before installing....no dry starts. By doing this you will find out how much oil really saturates into the filter. And your level is much more accurate when leveling.
