Default speedometer

ok so i got a 01 600 with 22,000 miles on it, this bike is my baby, a few days ago i was driving and noticed that my speedometer was reading zero when i was doing well over 40 mph, in the past week iv noticed that it will go in and out but now is starting to stay more with the speedometer reading zero, i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what the possible fixes could be, i called the bike shop in my home town and they told me that the speedometer sensor is connected in my trani but i really dont want to go ripping it apart without knowing exactly whats going on and if it could be a bad sensor or not, any help would be well appriciated,
thanks
nate

Check the speed sensor connection. It's not that hard, remove the seat battery and tail fairing, maybe the undertail.

mine did that also. But if you notice, your not putting any miles on the bike either anyway, I had to have the speed sensor replaced.

yyyyyyyyyyyes sir sounds like your speedo sensor. mine went bad and mileage and speed wouldnt budge it seemed until bike got very warm. from what i researched on here they seem to go bad in the high teens, low 20's of your mileage. mine went at 18k.
