Default Oil change question

Hey all,
I'm a new member and a new rider. I just picked up a CBR 954 02 with about 6000 miles when I got it. I've put on about 1800 so far, but I don't know if it got an oil change before I purchased it. I'm pretty sure it did because the guy who I bought it from is a local dealer and I know some friends who worked for him so I got a helluva a deal on the bike and a warantee. I heard recommended oil changes were every 3000 miles but have any of you heard anything else or have any expertise in the field with more frequent oil changes? Thanks!

3-5K should be plenty. some change more frequently...
if using dino oil, change around 2800...bike oil...3-4K, synthentic, 3-5K.
change filter every other oil change.

lube chain every 500 miles...
flush radiator, brake, fork oil once/year...

Thanks for the details...

I lubed the chain the first week I got it and I do it about once a month so far which works out to around 500 miles I figure so I'm in good shape on that! Any other maintanence I need to be aware of?

put some fuel injector cleaner in your next tank and then one bottle every like 5 tanks depending on how often you ride is a good idea, filter change.. i change it every oil change, only costs a few more dollars and def. worth it, also more stop and go riding, change about 2500... more highway or longer trips.. about 3500 is good and yes depends on oil to so keep that in mind, chain is a O ring chain so you dont have to worry about it to often but then again.. depends on how often and where you ride so just look at it and if need be, take it off wash it with soap and water and lube/oil it very well after , have fun riding and good luck with everything

it's a joke, do it yourself, 30 some dollars for oil, and 5 for filter unless u spring for a " really good oil filter" taht can run you 10 - 15 bucks

Is there a guide on the forums for changing the oil on these CBR954's? I just tried to change the oil earlier today following the manual advice and got totally distraught! There were so many screws and I am really not sure what needs to be removed so I am hoping there is a good how-to link somewhere.

Don't be afraid to go in there and knock out a few fairings if your handy. It is kinda easy. Just remember, if it doesn't come out easy, don't force it. There may be a plastic push pin you forgot to take out. Otherwise, your user manual that came with the bike has some instructions. God Luck!

Talk about reviving old threads! VP, I can't believe you actually considered paying someone $100 bucks to change your oil. Even if it was over two years ago.

Hell i'll do it for $80. [sm=icon_rofl.gif][sm=icon_rofl.gif][sm=icon_rofl.gif][sm=icon_rofl.gif][sm=icon_rofl.gif][sm=icon_rofl.gif]
