Oil in the alternator cover?
#12
I found a write up and i know what your talking about exactly, but instead of waiting for that dang gasket to come in, can i just use black permatex and run it around the whole alternator cover? i think this will seal it better than the paper gasket + i dont have to mess with the paper, and try to allign everything back together. doesnt he black permatex just stick to the metal than i can place it back and torque it?

Okay i took it all apart and leaned the bike agains the wall, only about a teaspoon of oil spilled out. I sealed the whole cover with permatex! and it looks clean and good to go. However i found the source of the leak. Someone before me who owned the bike torqued one of the bolt to much where it stripped the groves of the engine. Big big trouble i thought, so i used a screw tap. It didnt work the bolt would not catch.
Anyways I got it to catch with about a pound of torque, any more screwing would just cause it to pop and catch again. So i sealed the outside of the bolt with some more Permatex! it looks like tar and added an extra layer of permatex outside of the cover also to insure my self of no more leaks! I hope it works i dont see anything so far.
Anyways when i took it for a ride i ran out of gas. damn lol

Hey good idea acually! i think it should hold i permatexed the crap outta that bolt the front and the back the seal should do its job and keep that thing together! I dont think its going anywhere i left the fairing off, and going to drive to school and back, if it doesnt leak by tomorrow or show any sign of wettage im going to put back the fairing, and forget about the dang thing. Im trading in my F4i at the end of this summer for a 05-06 600rr most likely. Bike has 30,000 miles on it.

well acually its a good bike not really any major problems.. I drove it hard for last night, and let it sit over night, i dont see any leaks, or oil seep yet. Im guessing i can put back on the fairing and call it fixed? or should i wait a bit longer, i think if its not leaking now it wont for a long long time.
