Default newb help with plastic reinstall

I hate to ask this question on here guys, but i took my fairings off last winter when i first got my bike, and then left them off until now. I took the nose section completely off because i ended up going through the front of the bike to change the plugs. My problem is i can't get this nose section to sit properly. I can't get it back far enough for those plastic grommets on the air deflector pieces, the one beside the tank, to grab onto the nose section and hold it there. It's like the nose has to come back another 1/4". I've had it apart a few times and can't seem to figure it out. If i put the fairings on I'll need to push the nose really hard reward, and then slide those pop rivet black things in, and i'm worried i'll break them. Sorry for the confusion, i had to type this fast because i'm on my way to work. I'd like to get this things together tomorrow and ride. Thanks

There's two pointy things that stick out of the headlight, towards the back of the bike. They go into two rubber grommets on the fairing stay right behind the gauges. It's possible those aren't aligned properly.

Typically it's something right behind the headlight that will prevent the nose from going back far enough. Otherwise after those pointers go in, you just gotta wiggle everything into place.

Just have patience, you'll figure it out.
