Default What is the best way to reinstall a motor?

I'm doing a frame up restoration on a 96 F3. Which is the best method of putting the motor back in the frame? I want to get it in without scratching the new paint on the frame. I will have a couple of guys assisting in the effort.

1. Should I tape up the parts of the frame that are likely to get dinged up, then lower the bare frame onto the motor?

2. Should I put the swing arm, forks and wheels together then jack the motor up to the frame?

I'm leaning towards #1 since the frame is a lot easier to jockey around than the motor.

Thanks,
Larry

do everything else first
and yeah tape up the frame is you don't want it to get scratched
I just used a strap around the motor and used a ratchet strap to hoist the motor in place
1 man job

You can lower the frame onto the motor if you have at least 2 friends to help lift it into place using crates to install forks, wheels and swing arm.

or I suggest an easier method of using a motorcycle jack to push it up into place. Start with the lower back bolt on the bottom, then move to the front bolts to build a solid foundation installment.

Go with #1. I would lower the frame on to the motor. Easy for one person to do that way! Then if you have crates nearby use those to put swingarm and forks on.

I am currently doing this exact same thing (https://cbrforum.com/forum/cbr-600f3...-ol-f3-139381/). Have the engine sitting on a flat board that is on the ground. It's stable and you don't have to worry about the engine falling. With the frame only, lower it onto the engine with a engine hoist/cherry picker. You can control the rate of decent easily with it. Once the frame is on the engine, you can then lift the frame up and begin installing the suspension.
