The chain will need replacing if:
Sprockets you'll look at the wear of the teeth. Rounded off or extremely pointed teeth are good signs. Obviously broken / missing teeth and it should be replaced immediately (and not ridden until it is). You want to replace the chain and sprockets at the same time, regardless of the wear, if any of them needs replacing.
- The slack adjusters are fully turned out and the chain it still loose
- Missing o-rings
- Rust on the rollers
- Damage to links
