Awesome bike man... I have the exact same year, color combo. Only difference is i have a chain/sprocket acceleration kit and you have the power commander.

I have the same issue. what did you do to resolve the problem?
Utilized fiberglass for the repair/reinforcement. You'll need resin, hardener, and the fiberglass cloth; about $30 at Lowes, Home Depot. Sand the inside of the fairing to remove the paint and to scuff it up (adhesion). Cut the cloth into strips, then just follow the instructions. Make sure you follow them very closely! Practice a couple of times if you have to. Thickness is about 6-8 layers. Masking tape helps to protect the outside paint from run-offs. The foam pads can be re-attached with contact cement.
This method is very solid and I have not had this problem occur again. I also used it to repair a developing stress crack on my upper (by the mirror). Feel free to PM me with any questions

This side was really messed up ~ had to super glue the little pieces together before applying fiberglass, followed by just resin, then drilled a new hole.
