Master link type question.
I'm looking at the Regina chain/ sprocket kit on Motorcycle Superstore and noticed they list it as having both rivet and clip type master links. I know what the physical differences are, but is there any reason why I wouldn't want to use the clip type? My Scrambler has that type and I haven't had any issues with it, and it makes maintenance very simple.
I don't have a breaker/ rivet tool, so that's another expense if I can't use the clip type.
Thanks.

Hey Luck, with the clip vs. rivet question, on an off-road bike average speeds are going to be relatively low compared to the speed capability of a sport bike (street). That being said, a chain coming apart on the dirt is probably not going to be as bad as if one were to come apart on the highway while "cruising" at slightly above the speed limit
I believe if the clips were as dependable as rivets, everyone would be using them. Like you stated, it would be nice to be able to remove the chain and give it a soak.
That's quite an ingenious idea MC_spirited

I've had a clip type come loose at highway speeds. Broke the sprocket cover. My brother had one come apart at high speed, cracked the case, drained the oil and seized the engine before he realized what happened and could get stopped.
I use rivet ONLY now.
