Maintenance ?'s
Hello I am new sort of. Don't remember if I ever posted here. New Rider. MSF>Liscense>Dealer(Raped)>Ridin'.
So yeah I got my 02 f4i at the dealer here at our beautiful Honda of Hollywood. Talk about me being raped.
7k out the door
. NO I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT.
So now that the miles have gone from 5k to 7.5k im guessing I have to keep up with maintenance on my bike (If I want to keep it
)
A. Oil Change - recommended brand? Will be doing some light riding now (It is warm garaged/covered kept.) and heavy riding in the summer (4-5days a week).
B. Tires - Im guessing they did me so bad at the dealership that they didn't replace the stock tires, what brand should I be looking at here?
C. Anything else that you think should be lubed/replaced?
D. How do I get the girls to hop on the back? They are all scared of it. LOL! I know I'm not ready yet.
Well all in all, I am happy to own my baby. She's been good to me. Went to Hollywood Bike Night. That was way bad ***. Then I went to a charity event called Toy Ride 06. That was way bad *** x2. Thnks guys!!!

wow, ummm yea im gonna take the high road on the price...and go right to your questions...
Oil, you can stay fairly cheap and go with Honda 10w-40...get at local dealership around 2.60/qt and K&N oil filter, or you can run full synthetic for a pretty penny. i chose the honda oil cause it has been in there since the bike was new, no need switching brands now...
Tires are depended on the type of rider. If you are gonna be commuting on the highway a harder compound tire will be good for wear, but not too sticky when it comes to the twisties on the weekends. I like the Dunlop Qualifiers. They have a harder tread in the middle for extended wear on the highway, but have track rated "sidewalls" for maximum grip. If you dont mind the wear and want great traction all the time, go with a Perelli Diablo or Michelin Pilot Power. These are great tires for twisties and some trackdays, if you plan on that anytime.
the dealership should have checked the fluids before giving you the keys, might want to check to make sure your chain is in good working order and sprockets are not worn. buy some chain lube, i lube my chain about every month.
About the girls riding 2up, keep them off and you ride for a while and get the feel of the bike. You are not experienced yetto have someone on the back, give that time...Ive been riding since June 06 and still havent had my girl on the back. Also,WEAR GEAR (HELMET, GLOVES, JEANS, CE RATED JACKET) Take it slow, and be careful, ride at your own pace. The f4i is not very forgiving if you get ahead of yourself, i know from first hand experience. Be responsible and respectful of the power, and dont feel afraid to ask anything, no matter how small or dumb the problem is. Your question will be answered on here by someone. Most of all, have fun!

7k jesus christ man ouch!
I change my oil/filter every 1.5k with Castrol R4 5w40 synthetic.
clean and lube the chain (simple green and I use PJ1 clear cuz it's da bomb)
just check the tires for wear and that'll let you know but by 7.5k you should have prolly gone through at least 1 set.
As for the girls man, a spare helmet is a start

Sweet bike...Congrats...sorry the dealer didn't use KY....
The Qualifier is a great tire. You also may want to have the brakes checked as well. If you start hearing that rattling sound between RPMs 5k - 8k...It's time to replace the Cam Chain Tensioner.

NICE RIDE, ANYWAY I ALSO HAVE THE SAME BIKE I USE ROYAL PURPLE 10W-40.
THE REST I'M NOT SURE OF,LIKE U I'M A BEGINNER RIDER.BUT I HAVE LEARNED TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE ON THE BACK OF MY BIKE. U WON'T FEEL MUCH WHEN YOU'RE GOING BUT U WILL FEEL THE WEIGHT WHEN U SLOW DOWN AND WHEN U TAKE OFF(MOSTLY AT REALLY SLOW SPEEDS).
