I assume you're talking about coast-to-coast and back to the other coast. A coast-to-coast trip is a heck of a lot less than 7,200 miles, unless you're doing some serious zigzagging along the way.

BTW, if you will have an understanding spouse she will still let you head out for your adventures. I've been on multiple coast-to-coast bicycle rides since I've been married and she doesn't mind.

Yeah its a coast to coast with some zig zags - trying to hit some of the "close" states along the way (i.e. making a swing through South Dakota on my way from Seattle to Cape Cod just so I don't miss the state, its roughly a 75mile detour).
Trip is:
CT to San Francisco, CA then up to Seattle, WA then over to Cape Cod, MA then back to CT, going through RI, which is "the long way" from Cape Cod to CT.

I will be purchasing some bicycle shorts as well; didnt even think about it, and I cycle.

i'd get a much bigger, more comfortable touring bike and take her along with you. you want to share your life with her, but not this great experience?

you could pick up the sprocket on your way too.... just a suggestion.

Nice trip tho' Dude & sounds like you're getting well prepped. What's the plan for
carrying luggage and tools etc. ? & gear too ?

if ya figure 10 hours riding a day that'd put you in the 700 - 850 miles taken
Very doable a t a nice pace - taking it easy maybe 550 - 650
with pit stops for gas and chow etc.

Make sure ya get back before mem Day Traffic heading to the Cape

Thats the difference between us, I don't want a large bike; I'm happy with the size of my F4i.

As far as sharing the experiance with her, she won't get on a motorcycle; she doesn't like them. She is meeting me in Washington and we are spending some time together out there, I'd rather ride than fly.

If she was into riding I would have bought her a bike by now.

oooo...the sprocket! Now that would be a worthwhile detour. Maybe we can get that thing to the east coast by this summer.

I've done a couple from 3-5 hours in everything from 35f-100f but also do several 2 hour rides monthly. I like this bike to work for the street and the track so to make my trips more tolerable without sacrificing its performance I have done the following.

1: SW-Motech / Givi quick detachable saddleback racks
2: Crampbuster
3: Padded/armored bicycle shorts underneath pants.
4: Double bubble screen
5: Good headphones and quality gear.

1: SW-Motech / Givi quick detachable saddleback racks - I have a saddlebag system
2: Crampbuster - I'm getting a throttle rocker
3: Padded/armored bicycle shorts underneath pants. - I'm getting some
4: Double bubble screen - they make a sport touring model, I'm picking that up
5: Good headphones and quality gear. - getting some noise cancelling headphones, I have ear plugs, my gear is solid.
