do you have to take off your fuel tank to get to the cctl?

 

I have the same noise but it seems to be coming from the other side. It only seems like it is coming from the one cylinder. Are you fairly positive its the CCTL. I replaced the automatic one with a manual tensioner about 1,000 miles back because I heard a noise that I thought to be the problem but now I'm thinking this is it. Is this a sound from it being too loose or too tight?

 

You need to lift it but does not require complete removal.
