Default RPM limited?

Took the bike out for a ride on Friday afternoon. Everything seems fine, except for some reason the bike completely chokes at 10k rpm and stops accelerating.

Bike will happily go faster in next gear, but at 10k rpm in any gear the bike just stops accelerating, and stops suddenly enough that under WOT conditions it causes a full on sack-tap against the gas tank. Not pleasant.

The stop happens exactly on the line at 10k RPM, If I back off and then full WOT again I can get it up to 10,250 but that's it. Stop, start again, same situation at 10k again.

Normally this is not an issue as I don't tend to push the bike that high in the RPMs, but i'd rather address the problem.

Ideas

Whats does it do at 10K? Does it rev smoothly? Cut out? Backfire? Make different noises? FI light on the dash?

Up to 10k everything is normal, as soon as it hits 10k the bike just stops climbing RPM. No additional lights, no sounds, no nothing, just can't go faster. Even if I open the throttle up all the way it won't do it.

Feels like when you hit the Governor in a cage, will stay at same rpm, just won't go any higher no matter how hard you push it.

Not sure, didn't test it.

As long as it doesn't snow I'll take it out this weekend and find out.

Only thing I can think of that are:

-Weak spark/Spark blow out
-Weak fuel pump or dirty fuel filter
-Some how skipped a tooth on timing.

why does it matter if its snowing to see if it does it in nuetral? lol.

Another possibilty is a linkage problem. I don't know how likely but it's possible

almost sounds fuel pump related...

try this.. Ride the bike in about third gear to 10k, and downshift to 2nd gear. That'll put the RPM's around 12k-ish...

See that it does then.

The bike is in a shed at the apartment complex, it's a free place to keep it out of the elements, but when it snows they plow all the snow right against the door of the shed. Makes it awful hard to do anything with the bike.
