Default Front Wheel Removal

Is it safe to remove the front wheel while it's on a front fork stand? The two bolts that the stand uses are right where you have to loosen the pinch bolts and they might open too wide and have the side go right through. Anyone done this before? And if i can't use the front fork stand is there anything else i can use? I tried a car jack but that seemed too unstable.

I sure as hell hope it's ok, because thats how I took mine off 2 weeks ago lol. It worked just fine for me, although I had the same concern as you about it. The only problem that I had with it was that I had to go out and buy a 22mm socket for the axle. The highest I had was an 18. The only thing you may want to do that I did, is when you put the front wheel back on and tighten all the bolts, just recheck them for torque values on the stand and off of the stand, just for safety's sake

Great thanks man, ya im always an over cautious person and wouldn't wanna mess anything up. I didn't wanna shell out an extra 100 for a triple tree stand although it would be helpful. I think the bike's tool kit comes with a 22 mm wrench?

I removed mine multiple times with a fork stand. No issues. Didn't even occur to me.

Unfortunately I when I bought my bike used, the guy didn't have the tool kit with it, so I've been having to make up for it slowly by buying the tools I need. Probably dumb on my part to be riding around without any tools, but I suppose I have friends with pickup trucks lol.

If you have a garage or something with rafters, throw some ratcheting tie downs over some rafter, throw them around the front of the frame and lift the bike off the ground. I would suggest securing the back end to avoid it flipping over, but this is the best way to get the bike off the ground if you ever need to do any fork work, or yeah, buy a triple tree stand.

Alright now i need help with the install. I'm trying to put the axle in and do i do this from the left or right side. Facing the front of the bike. And Are both sides supposed to have side collars? One seems a little larger than the other, and not sure which side is which. Here's a pic of the side collars, which one is left and right (facing the front of the bike)?

The one with the larger end that has a couple little holes in it is on the left side when sitting on the bike (clutch lever side).
