Default front wheel removal

I was wondering what is your suggestions on how to remove the front wheel, all I have is a small jack and a regular car jack I dont really have any way to suspend the bike in the air to pull off the wheels. I was just wondering is there any other way to accomplish this with out taking it the dealer and having them do it cus it will cost 120 to have it done and if it do it, it will only cost 30 if I do it. Please help me out I want to get back to riding again.

Thanks
Nick

If you plan to do your own work, you'll need the right tools. Buy a good set of stands. You can get good stands for as little as $99 (both front and rear) plus shipping.

Any other method you devise will be unstable, at best.

i use a standard floor jack and a piece of 2x6 wood...place the wood on the jack and position it under the header (better if closer to the front and on a flat surface) and jack it up from there...have someone else to hold the bike or u can hold it urself like i did..then u can take off the front wheel..i had to do this so i can replace the tire

nice..... but how did u get the axle out if its laying on it side??

and for the back..i use another floor jack, milk crate or jack stands (anything that's just as high enough for the right side of swing arm to sit on)..with the bike sitting on the kick stand...i place the jack stand close to the front of swingarm on the right side..adjust the stand to the hieght of the arm..place the floor jack on the left close to the front and jacked it up...hold the bike as u jack it up..it should sit on the jack stand and the wheel should be off the ground....make sure u don't get both the stand and the jack touching the wheel or u'll have a stuck wheel...then i unbolted the axle.....as the post i did above i had the bike sitting on jacks and jack stands...surprise it didn't tipped over..was pretty stable...took me about 2 hours to replace tires and align the chain

Modified, IMHO, with all due respect to the members who have chimed in, you're getting some really bad advice in this thread. While some of the methods here have worked, you really taking a HUGE risk. As i said, you can get stands for $100. That's a small investment considering the alternative of the bike falling over.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. Just remember you are the one who is responsible for what happens.

Get the stands! Why risk damaging the bike when you can just do it the right way. Same with working on cars. If I'm at a freinds house or something and he wants me to work on his car, if there aren't any jack stands and it's not a level surface I'm out! Think about it.[>:]

You'll save $90 by doing it yourself -- just take that money and get some decent stands on e-bay. They'll last a long time and you can save even more money without the risk of f'ing up your ride.
