I agree with everyone else. Don't waste you time and money on a bike for that price. I would say like maybe 3800, and you still have to replace a chain and lever. I have an 02 F4i and I paid 3500 with only 3800 miles on it. There are deals out there, you have to look for them. Don't settle for a Kantana, go Honda, performance speed, looks and respect is what you get from a Honda.

Like every one said, Katana's are heavy and slow. To learn how to ride i would suggest something used and inexpensive 3-4k MAX!an F4i or a 2000 - 2002 Kawasaki ZX6R.
Both are great bikes, no too much power and not as agressive as an RR, but they still are in supersport class. so they perform like a sport bike should and not like a tank!
I just bought my 2001 F4i with MANY MANY upgrades for only $3800.

Okay already.... Here it is from a guy that's had a Katana. In its "HEY DAY"the Katana was a great sport touring bike (emphasis on touring). They truly are heavy, throttle response was slow. Of course being a 06 and fuel injected this shouldn't be an issue. The ride is comfy, but this is a huge trade off for the lack of performance. The bike is hard to get up (on one wheel), although this makes it a great starter bike. Regarding the price and damage the seller is way too high. If the sell will not reduce the bike to a feasible price. PASS. Katana's are a dime a dozen. There's no point in spending that kind of money on a bike that your friend will quickly out grow or become bored with.

I would have thought they were still carbureted.

Katana engines are finicky. Not trying to pick on them, but I would recommend a GS500 over them. In their day they looked OK, but now it's just a feminine looking bike.

Maybe the price isn't too bad if it's a Kat 1100 (do they still make those?)

Update:

To hell with that bike. Well, let me take that back.

To hell with that chick that's selling the bike. We tried meeting up with her but she didn't even call back. I'm not about to chase someone down to buy their busted up, rusted up burden. She's done a total unjustice to that bike. Beingan owner myself, I couldn't imagine letting mine sit out in the rain, lookin like crap, and getting rusted up. I should've known better to even consider that bike. If I was to buy a used bike, I would want the owner to lovethem as much as I do.

And on that note, if anyone knows where I can find a used honda near northwest Louisiana, let me know.
