how long does a battery typically last for these? and if it dies can i recharge it and it will be fine?

Yes you can recharge them if they die.

They probably won't last as long as a car battery will. You are probably well served to replace them every 2 or 3 years, assuming you treat the battery normally.

Some have trickle chargers to store them over the winter....

 

ok well i just got a bike and i'm trying to figure out if its a bad battery or the R/R. the lady said "we put a new battery in it" but none of the 3 i got with the bike really look new, i need my tools!

 

when in doubt use a voltmeter

 

I'm gonna try that as soon as i can get one, i don't wanna buy one because i have one back home with my tools.
