I have noticed that when my bike gets a little hotter than normal (200+) like when I am in stop and go traffic, there is a slight leak and it looks like it is coming out from underneath the reservoir cap. its not alot, just enough to make a line down the side and put a drop underneath it on the front part of the swingarm. There are just a few drops and it isnt enough to drip on the ground since the drops land on the swingarm.

Could the reservoir be too full? Like I said it isnt alot...but I would like it to stop. I just got the bike this spring and I am just noticing it now that the summer temps are here.

 

200 - 240F range is normal, depends on how much stop-and-go traffic you ride in.

The maximum level in the reservoir is around one-third of its volume, that is, it should be about one-third full.

 

I know that the bike isnt overheating, I just meant when it gets hotter than regular riding temps (170-185). But the leak bothers me. I think the reservoir may be over full...would that cause the cap to leak?

 

Yes it would. As the coolant heats up, it expands. If you've got too much coolant in there, it will leak; no big deal. Eventually it will stop, unless you want to drain some out of it.

 

Look at the lines indicating the appropriate level and on the reservoir when the bike is not warmed up and see where your level rests. Like orags said, it's about 1/3 to 1/2 full for the appropriate level.
