Default Build from scratch

Hello to all fellow riders!

Ive recently been giving this forum a lot of attention as Ive run out of things to do to my car haha. Long story short I had an F3 and put on almost 7k miles my first season and then sold it to build a mk3 jetta vr6.

Now the tables have turned and Im looking to build an F4i. Ive wanted one since before I even started riding and now that I have the ability to get one id like to build it myself.

My question to you guys is would it be more cost efficient to build one from scratch or buy a parts bike?

If you look at the link in my sig, You can see I built mine from a badly crashed up to looking good and riding great again. I did the whole rebuilt for about 1200 dollars. It takes time to find good prices on parts, but it is possible.

Just look around and find a CHEAP wrecked bike and let the fun start. Wrecked bikes can normally be found for less than a grand. With 1000 to 1500 more invested you could have a really nice fully custom bike for yourself and still only have around 2000 to 2500 in total cost.

I got a roler with motor and tank for $600. spent $700 in parts and i have a nice f4i now. nicer next week after my buddy paints it pearl white. (clean title when i got her)

But you looking at clean title frame for $600 at the minium, $600 for motor, $300 for plastics, forks are 200, subframe is 50ish, swingarm is 60, rims are 200 a set. **** adds up wicked fast.

In a lot of the builds I see that no one has really touched any internals. Ive heard how reliable and bulletproof these motors are but is it really safe to assume that any used block is good to go?

For the most part yes. Run a simple compression test, and make sure it goes threw the gears. good compression, goes threw the gears. Odds are your good to go, but theres also that chance. But theres always a chance with any used block.

The reason I suggest buying a wrecked bike, is because most of the time you can get one that runs already. Most people wreck them and get scared and sale them off cheap to get rid of it. Always look for a bike that can be started when you go look at it.

Honestly a wrecked bike for around 800 bucks is cheaper then a freash build. Motors are going for around 600 on the cheaper side on ebay, then to get a frame with title your looking around another 400. Wrecked bike will already have title, wiring harness, rims, tires, forks, swingarm, all the goodies.

I forgot to mention Im trying to put tags on it and ride it around. Ive been having trouble finding a frame with a title for under $900. Maybe Im looking in the wrong places. Do you guys suggest any places to find wrecked bikes?

Thanks for all the help!

TITLED f4i frame is hard to find due to the fact, people buy them, thinking they can stunt, and end up wrecking the bike and getting a CoD title. and all the ones with good titles people snag up fast because the f4i is a dam good 600. not the fastest but most defentally the most reliable. Plus stunters wanna buy them to ride to there stunt spots most of the time. Plus its a fairly modern sportbike. good luck getting one under a grand. but best place is craigslist or ebay.

Your best bet is find a wrecked f4i with clean title, use the frame and sell the parts. in the end you usually make back the money you spent on frame in the parts you sell, so youll be getting a free frame if you look at it that way.

I got my f4i for $600 with clean title. but she looked like she was on her last leg. Iv givin her a new life.

(pics are from when i first got her, and what she looks like now, and all with less than $1400 into her ($1400 is including the $600 bike, parts, regestration, and all new fluids and plugs, Price will be raised to $1500 after my friend shoots the fairings pearlwhite in his paint booth). Shes got rattle can paint job until midweek next week when shes getting painted pearl white.)

Befor

Midway

After (soon to be seen)
