Even if you ride at low rpms, you're still going to rev-match when downshifting unless you're just dropping the clutch to mate the idle speed of your engine to the lower gear. That would make for some interesting riding. lol It only takes a blip of throttle to make for a smooth downshift.
Anyway, +1 to Aken's comments. Sounds completely normal, and your concerns are pretty typical of people who don't have experience with bikes. The same kind of hard shifting is common on dirtbikes and atvs from first gear, though more subtle. I'd do as was suggested by trying to get on a friend's bike and compare. If it feels similar, I'd say you just will need to get used to the nature of shifting these machines.

I believe he is talking about the Factory Pro Shift Detent kit. I had one in my F4 and it was ok. I find that a couple hundred rpm's to high on the idle makes it shift hard from a stop. generally down shifting is clunky if decellerating to rapidly. Try holding the throttle a little higher when downshifting.
