Default Question about shifting

I have searched and I found one similar to the question I have ,but didn't hit the nail on the head. I just got my first bike yesterday. It's a stock 2006 CBR600F4i, and my question is "What are the correct times to shift through each gear?" Growing up on dirt bikes I could hear the RPM's and know when to shift. But this is different. I usually shift around 4500 to 5500 RPM. The bike sounds like its revved a little bit so i usually just cruise through town at 45 - 50 MPH in 5th or 6th gear. When I look at videos of guys running there 600F4i's online they are hitting like 14k Rpm.. If I rev my bike over 6k it sounds like thats too high.. But thats just to my ear. I have not even been around a bike in 2 years. Its nothing wrong with my bike its just me tripping. I bought the bike at my local honda dealer and had some pro's check it out for me. They said it was a good sound bike, no rattles runs smooth, no missing.. Sorry if this is all confusing. Dont flame but if you have any idea about the primary question please shoot me some insight. Thanks.

it depends on what u wanna do, u can shift whenever you want. for real......if u wanna go faster hold it out longer, just cruise nice and slow, shift lower. there is no set point to shift at. that light is the rev limiter light, if you want just use that to tell you when to shift. lol j/k but fir real theres no shift point

i hope this helps

I try to keep it under 5k on the street, but shift at 14k on the track. It's got a rev limiter just past 14k so I wouldn't worry too much about over-revving it. The bike is pretty hardy.

It's just like a car - you shift depending on how you're driving. If you're driving on a normal city street without much acceleration, you shift low in the RPM range. If you're getting onto a freeway, you shift higher in the RPM range. If you're going ***** to the wall, you shift at 14K. It's up to you. Just ride and play around.

If you're in for a good laugh look at the recommended shift points in the manual...

Here it is... Straight from the Manual:

Shifting up:

From 1st to 2nd: 12 mph
From 2nd to 3rd: 19 mph
From 3rd to 4th: 25 mph
From 4th to 5th: 32 mph
From 5th to 6th: 37 mph

Shifting Down:

From 6th to 5th: 28 mph
From 5th to 4th: 22 mph
From 4th to 3rd: 16 mph

Haha, when I saw these numbers in the manual I couldn't believe my eyes. Really funny.

I'd join everyone in this question. You shift whenever you want, all depends on circumstances. When overtaking, for example, you might want to shift down one gear to get around that cager faster.
