02 F4i Battery Question/ Dash Related
Hey all.
My 02 F4i stays at my friends garage during winter, and will remain so until april.
I started it about 2.5 weeks ago and it was a little hesitant but then was perfectly normal.
Well I live in upstate NY and the temp has gotten to 7-14 degrees out.
Anyways, I went to start it today and it wouldn't turn over. I just bought a battery tenderizer and its over there now charging. Hopefully it will be just fine once its charged, but my other question is this....
When I try to start it, the clock resets? It keeps going to 1:00 Am everytime it won't turn over.
Any ideas as to why?

That's a new one on me. J/k ;-)
Once your battery is fully charged & keeps charged w/ your tender, you shouldn't have the clock issue.

alright thanks
so you just think it was a low battery then?
BTW how do you change the clock time back? I don't have the manual
^ +1
My bike did the same thing. Just when your battery dies -same as in a car- all your presets mess up. Once its charged reset the clock and you'll be good... Which reminds me i need to learn how to do that lol. Mine has had the wrong time since I bought the bike
EDIT: Found out how to set the time... google is a helluva tool lol

When I bought the bike it had/still has the power commander in it.
Will this affect that?
Affect what? The batteries life? To be honest i have no idea. My bike came with a PC3 on it the owner forgot to take it off he says but he isnt getting it back now hahaha! I believe it may have some effect on it however im not sure as to how much. When putting my tender on the battery i noticed the negative cable had a extra cable under it. I assume it was the ground for the PC. but im not 100 percent sure. Ill do some searching on it.

I meant since the clock reset will it screw up the power commander?
Oh you mean with the performance maps programmed in the PC? Once again Im not sure but I would say it wouldn't. Since they're programmed in there im sure they will stay there even if the battery dies and clock resets.
Someone with more knowledge will have to chime in.

I'm pretty sure that they are written to a type of ROM. i.e. no charge needed to
maintain state. I don't have one, but I'm betting if you remove one from the bike and
then plug it back in, it remembers. Other-wise just dis-connecting it from the harness
would force you to re-program it. But, I can't say for sure, either.
As far as the clock, it's kind of annoying that it's not battery backed-up, but my car
does the same thing + I have to re-program the stations, lol.
