Default valves

Just wondering before i go and rip it apart. How often do the valves need to be replaced around 16k. The book says to check them at 16k and im a little over that. Im just wondering because for cars it says to change something at a certain mileage and a ton of people never do. I mean i never changed my antifreeze on my jeep and it went to 300k miles. So just wondering if its just a check or does it really need to be changed?

You dont replace valves at 16k, You check the clearances.

Honda valves are known to almost never go out of spec, go ahead and check them to be safe but chances are you won't have to swap any shims.

If you're doing it yourself, checking the valve clearance costs nothing. If its not done and they do need adjustment, you can end up bending a valve and causing excessive wear. If the clearances do need adjustment, the cost of a shim kit is more than worth it.

It's not some bullchit mechanic ploy. To be 100% honest, most mechanics don't wanna do the valves on the older bikes
