Default Valves

I have about 17,000 miles on my 929 and i know you are supposed to get the valves checked at that mileage. What are some signs that the vavles should be adjusted.? I am starting to hear a little bit of ticking along with a little rougher idle. Thanks

16 or 17 thousand,, dont know about you but i ride a good bit and that would take me at least 3 to 5 years if not more so its probably not to much to do every 16 or 17 thousand is it?

Hi ..

My "new" '01 929 has 56k kms (35k miles) and my mechanic
says that they don't need it. These motors are -really- strong!

a little maintance is fine and if you have the money to do a valve job every few thousand miles more power to ya. if you do one you might as well put some performance cams in as well

I agree with the lantern a valve job should be $150 at the most (purely adjustment) $150 as to a junk 929 you be the judge.

wow...$150 is very cheap...but it does vary depending on where you're at.
in socal, it'll run about $300 just to check, then more to adjust.
the shim under bucket on the 929 is total bs crap design...

as for needing valve adjustment at 16K, it's hard to tell...most likely no, but if you're bouncing off the rev limiter all the time and hammering the **** out of the bike all the time, then yes.

it's not so bad to do yourself. make sure you synch the throttle bodies while you're at it. it'll make your bike much smoother.

how much would it cost to get the valves adjusted by a bike shop?
