Default CCT Or Valves?

I'm familiar with the cam chain tensioner noise...my bike does it once in a while...the most disgusting sounding noise ever...but i have anothe question about a noise...doesn't sound nearly as horrible as the CCT noise and it almost sounds like lifter tap...i hear it ever so softly at idle...and all the way up to about 6 or 7grand then i can't hear it(being drowned out by the other noises i guess), i noticed it today more than usual...seems to be the most annoying/scary(with my luck you would understand the reason for saying scary) on decel/accel around 3 grand or so, i'm a little over 18,000 miles...

Did you have your valves checked out at around 15,000 - 16,000 mi.? The valve clearance is supposed to be checked at that milage and shims need to be added or taken away accordingly.

That might be a place to start, then. Slap a manual CCT on it first, though, and get that noise quieted down. Who knows...if you're lucky, maybe both noises with disappear...

I'd do the CCT as you know you are going to need it. Plus it's a quick fix that will keep you on the road. Doing the valve adjustment will take a lot longer. -and perhaps more money depending on how everything is.

My mileage is at 18,780....didn't think i put that many miles on it since i got it...but sometimes the sound almost sounds like a ringing noise...nothing that the CCT has ever sounded like before....and when i say my CCT makes that noise every so often...it's probably once every 25-30 starts...which i find amazing compared to all the stories on here about them going after 250 miles from brand new!!! But this sucks...right now this is my only method of transportation...i'm out of work and damn near broke...

I think I'm in the sames shoes you are in lonewolf. I also have a funny noise in that same range of rpms and my bike just turned over 16k. It almost sounds like a buzzing noise when i accelerate andsometimes it does make a noisebut othertimes it doesn't. I just changed my CCT so i know it is not that. Anyone know about how much it would cost to get valve clearances checked/fixed?

Yea thats the PERFECT explanation of the sound...almost like buzzing, have you noticed that its on accel but not decel? And I would also be interested in knowing the approximate cost of such diagnosis/repair

i notice it when i quick accel but after that i can't hear it cause of the wind, so i don't know... Im calling a shop tomorrow to see how much it would cost to get valves clearances checked and adjusted.
