bendix gear sticks? Take the starter out, clean and lube with some sticky vaseline. That should do it.

Could this cause any problems with my battery because when I did a volt test it's under 14k while revving 2000?

Rev to 5K and you should be getting 13.8-14.4volts.

Shouldn't be probs with your battery - like Mattson said, sounds like your bendix isn't properly extending or retracting. Might just need a good cleaning and lube-up.

I think Mattson probably hit it right on the head, but, if there's any chance the sound is hard to track, and might be coming from the right side, then it could be your CCT beginning to fail, as building oil pressure will make that go away... at least until it fails all the way.

Alright thanks. I wasn't sure because I blew my R/R somehow and got a new one from ricks and went to test it's power outage and it's about 13.96 at 5k and I had heard if its below 14 your stator may be bad. But I'm going to remove the starter this week and lube it up I will be sure to let you know how it goea

Well, if you're going in there anyway, it would be interesting to know if anything is loose/rubbing, inside that left case... let us know.

Pulling and checking/lubing the starter bendix gear/shaft is easy as well, you really should get that done, so that if the issue IS the bendix sticking, you don't hose your starter, and have to replace it, or worse, damage your flywheel.

Worth checking. I once had a `79 Vw Passat that had starter issues. I went to the local dealer to ask what a new starter costs and dropped my jaw onto the counter. Went home, took it off to see it`s full of grime and all black from the inside, did a thorough cleaning, lubing, threw it back on and it worked beautifully to the day I sold the car.

German car parts from the dealer are outrageous!! I drive German cars, when I'm not riding, and thankfully, O'Reilly Auto Parts, in the states, stocks a decent amount of needed wear items (or they can get them pretty quickly). I had a Turbo Diesel Mercedes once, that needed an alternator - the alternator itself, from the dealer, was almost $400, and an additional bolt on voltage regulator was $115... I was able to get an alternator from O'Reilly, with the regulator included, for $99! I also got a starter for that car (massive unit), for under $100.
Their parts aren't as plentiful for my current BMW 6 series, but still, I get what I can from them, depending on what the part is, of course.

Sorry, rsaari13, didn't mean to "thread-jack" you!!
