used tire question
so there is a guy in my area that owns a shop that does a lot of billet and chrome stuff for motorcyces. www.ppmcustom.com
I met him at the gym. Anyway the stuff he makes is beatiful in person, I just dont get into the chrome stuff so much. He has used track day tires that he buys from somebody. He has literally stacks of them. There is plenty of tread left on all of them. Says maybe only 8-10 laps on each. The edges of the tires are SHREDDED! Forget chicken strips these bad boys look like someone took 40 grit to the sides. As previously mentioned there is lots of tread in the middles. The guy has a 190 rear pilot race tire he said he'd give me for 70 bucks. Deal or not? Any danger in using a tire like that? I have no idea why the witing is green.

RE: used tire question
Race tires are supersoft and the used edges tend to look like that. You should go look @ them. People tend to stretch the truth when it comes to tread life and tire wear."lots left" can turn into "wore out" real quick. If its really only got 8 to 10 laps $70 isnt too bad, (but notreal great)if he will mount it for free. If you go to any races there will be lots of take offs that racers will sell for cheaper then that.

RE: used tire question
I was able to look at them in person,it did appear to be quite a bit of tread left in the grooves of the tire. I dont know how long the "race" compound will last on the street anyway. He said he would give me a front and rear mounted and balanced for 150$. that did seem like a deal.he did however urge me to not advertise the price but I dont feel like this is advertising. So the edges of the race tire tend to look that way regaurrdless or is it the result of hard miles from an experienced rider with a soft compound?

RE: used tire question
[8D] Looks ok. I run Race take offs on occasion. Just remember bike tires are not like car tires, just because theres tread doesnt mean they are good. Heat destroys the tires ability to grip. Depending on how many heat cycles and how severe also have to do with the life let in the tire. I use them for goin around town they work great for it because there is so much tread left in the center.
