tapping sound???
just got my 02 954rr the lifters to tap untill 115 degrees or so...but.... at low rpms between idle and 4500 rpms, i can hear a light tap.. not quite as loud as the lifters when i first crank it up. but the tap is definately in the upper part of the motor. i moved my attention to the header.. i CANsmell slight exhaust from that area and the taping isnt allover the top part of the head just in one location. do you think it is as exhaust leak?? (also even after 4500 rpms if i kneel down i can hear the tap alil.. but not when sitting on the bike.. exhaust is too loud)
thanks..
thanks..
its actually... two things.. first the fan was tapping... which was the tap on the top that i heard... the second is a lower end tap.... dont think that is anything too outta the ordinary. i was just noticing it because it was a new motor... i hope....(i determined the where the tap came from by using my long 3/8 extention and placing it in my ear and then the other end on the motor.. started enter and worked out.) any body else have this problem??[&:]
i have 2 of these beasts they both have about 7k's on the motors does the same thing. it taps till warms up. i think its normal i hadbrain from winracing, aurora, illinois. check them both and was told the motors r solid.
All of these noises you here on your 54 are perfectly normal. The 954 is notorious for making a lot of lifter noise when cold. Don't worry about it. This has been highly discussed on this forum.
My 954 had 20k miles when I sold it. Get that motor over 5k and you won't hear a thing but a sweet purr. The motor will sound like a 'rock crusher' just sitting there. Solution: ride it or sell it.
