Default tapping sound

Hi all, I have recently bought a F4 and i have noticed a fast tapping sound between 2500 and about 3000 rpm. It sounds like it is coming from underneath the bars/ radiator area (difficult to tell exactly where from) Any ideas, should i be worried or is it just a noise the F4 makes?

Default RE: tapping sound

I have a 2000 F4 and was told at least for my bike, that the tapping is the valves. A good valve job would correct the problem. But in my bike, I don't experience any loss of power or any other problems. Mechanic saidI just need to be aware of it and if it gets worse, then get the valve job done. I will probably get it done at the begining of next season.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

James

Default RE: tapping sound

There are two other threads that talk about a "ticking" sound under their carbs. I think they said it had something to do with CCT (cam chain tensioner) or the CCTL (Cam Chain Adjuster Lifter) and then the possibility of the valves needing their routine adjustments. Hope this helps. As matter of fact I had my last valve adjustment done at 16k miles. When I took my bike down to get it looked at after I low sided it on friday they told me it was do for another one. The bike now has little over 25k on it. And I also noticed a ticking or "tapping" sound as of late. So that very well may be your problem. When was the last time to your knowledge the valves were adjusted?
