rattle when cold start?

RE: rattle when cold start?
Not to scare you, ridnlow, but ...
* BEWARE *[:-]
I had a slight knocking/rattling noise a few months ago that started during warmup and went away. It soon got to the point where the sound continued through the rev cycle. I blogged and researched and decided to the change the CCT.
After that didn't help I had a local shop look at it. Turns out I had burned my crank up and ruined the inside of the engine walls. Needless to say, my 54' has a new motor in her now, but the point is don't always assume it's something minor.

What caused your crank too "burn up"? Was there a bad rod or crank bearing? What happened?

Sorry for the late reply.
The shop's best guess was that I wasn't running enough oil in her to be riding out wheelies forextended distances. That caused the initial damage to the crank and the noise started. From there the damaged crank just began to eat my motor out.
It's an emotional story, but at least I learned that oil levels need to be full if you have to always be on the back tire, and little noises can become a big deal when ignored. [&:]
