Needs some advice before buying!!
New guy here. Don't own a 954 right now but hopefully that problem gets solved shortly. I'm looking at an 03 at a local dealer. Stock except for flush mount turn signals. 4800 miles. Clear title. Looks like it's going to need new tires by next season and the rear seat has some cracks in it but aren't really noticable. Other than that it's beautiful. Black and titanium (or whatever that color is called). It's been sitting on the floor for 4 months and they want $7500 which I know is rediculous even with the west coast being slightly more expensive. What do you guys suggest for a firm offer. I'm thinking 6k and a new set of tires. Any and all advice is helpful. Thanks.

That didn't even cross my mind. Left outside a lot. Thanks. I'll use that one. Can anyone recommend a decent set of tires so I can look up the price and use that one as a bargaining chip as well. Last street bike I owned was a '96 (i think) cbr900rr back in '99 so I've been out of the loop for a while.

Yeah, dealer around here wanted the same thing for 954 I looked at in January. Search local Craigslist also, that's where I found mine for quite a bit less, even though I did talk the guy down slightly.
I'd say offer $6500 if you REALLY like the bike... pay in full by cashier's check, DON'T finance it or they've got you by the *****. Remember that usually taxes and tags at the DMV will run you another $500 so be prepared. Of course if you pay the taxes at the dealer then either way you still have to PAY.
ALSO BE SURE THEY LET YOU TEST RIDE IT BEFORE YOU SIGN ON THE DOTTED LINE. If there is something wrong besides the damaged seat you should be able to feel / hear it during the test ride. Hopefully you already have your motorcycle license. If you don't maybe bring a friend who does and don't let them tell you "no test ride". Some of those dealers are jerks.

Thanks guys. I'm going to go in Monday and throw$5750 at them and see where it goes from there. Yeah, definite test ride. I won't even deal with them if they won't let me take it out for a little spin. Having the cracked seat and like trent954 and letsride said, was probably left outside, also makes me wonder about the maintenance on it. If you don't care enough to get your bike under some kind of cover than what else didn't you care about. Appreciate the input!! I get trigger happy when it comes to buying new toys and I'm trying to restrain myself with this one until the deal is right. It's so hard though! It just stares at me with those big clear headlights and I can hear it saying "Take me home".
