Unhappy Need help with battery issues?

Hi all, currently having problems with the rr3s battery. Went for a long run over ten hours riding with a pillon a couple of weeks back, couple of days later awoke to a dead battery. Put the battery on charge till full then placed back on bike couple of days later awoke to a dead battery again( lights all working but not enought juice to start) anyways, went away bought a new battery and again day 2 days latter flat. mechanic has tested the regulator and assured me everything is fine putting charge to battery as normal. Can anyone tell me what the hell is going on? mechanic suggested intermitant problem maybe when ridden hard regulator could be getting too hot? any advice would be great

Regulator either works or it doesn't. If you're getting proper charging you might want to hook an ammeter in line with the ignition off and see if you've got current leakage.

If the r/r is just starting to fail, yes, it will stumble as it gets hot and then cools.
Look for heat-sign on the connector or r/r, itself.

Here's the diagnostics...Charging System Diagnostics - Rectifier/Regulator Upgrade - Triumph Forum: Triumph Rat Motorcycle Forums

Use your eyeballs, first and then try the link, good luck, Ern

Something is draining your battery. If it were an intermittent problem with the R/R, then it would not start after stopping for gas or when leaving work, etc.

Ya, that has been my experience. Last time it fried my alternator. I've seen a battery lose a cell when it gets warm but never heard of the R/R going from working cold to not working warm back to working cold. Not saying it can't happen but it's a solid state type of device.

If you got no leakage and it is charging at idle with a rise in voltage peaking at around 5K rpms then I'd check for loose or dirty connectors from alternator to R/R.
