Default GP Shifter recommended by Letsride

If you are spending big money elsewhere then I recommend spending $20-30 on this upgrade. I have a quick hand when it comes to clutch shifting, but my hand can't keep up when I upshift now (or in this case shift down). Missing 2nd is impossible, and going into neutral from 1st in simple. I bought a shifter arm from a 80's model VFR. I had to do some cutting, drilling, grinding, and a trip to Lowe's to make it fit my foot perfectly. If you buy a newer shifter then you shouldn't have this problem. To sum it up for $30 I bought a shifter, a bolt, washers, lock nut, and 1'' long pvc pipe. The shifter was to long, so I cut it, drilled a hole, tapped the hole, used a grade 8 bolt with lock nut and washers and made a new shift arm. Then I grinded half the head off the bolt for clearance. Done!

Also when you remove the old shifter you have a blank spot on the peg assy. Thats where the pvc pipe came in. I cut it to size, painted it black, and now no ugly spot. Enjoy, and dont mind the old shift sock. I know the arm needs to be painted, pic was snapped for this thread.

Again, thank you Letsride!

bitchin'. i've got a shift arm from a gs500 that i parted out and it's just like the viffer arm, so i think i'll give it a go.

its that much quicker huh? and i gotta be honest, i'm kind of worried about muscle memory causing me to shift wrong when i'm going. do you find it to be that much different?

It feels more natural. I think when I pulled out of my driveway and took it around the block the first time (90ft from the house) I tried to upshift. After that, I gave it a quick thought and was good. I had to take it off and put the other one one. I felt out of place trying to shift up......I like it....

Hey your welcome tex,As far as the shifting, yes it is alot faster kind of a quick shifter would work. They shifting part does take some getting use to.I had to do all my bikes with reverse pattern to make it easier to remember. On the track it is a world of difference.Glad you like it.You can also use a shifter from a cbr1100xx.

You are right, I have the CBR 1100xx shifter on mine and I can tell you for sure that if you forget and think your shifting into 3rd from second and drop back down to first at a hard accell things do get squirley.

Guys, you need to know one thing. This mod works great with the stock rearsets. However if you decide to put some rearset plates to alter the position, the gear shift lever distance to the peg is way way bigger and if your foot size is less than 43 (EU), know that you're in trouble and shifting is nearly impossible.
