I'm new to this forum and to the CBR world in general. I recently purchased an '01 929, in fact so recent I haven't picked it up yet. The bike has 9200 miles on it, with the only mods being a 2 bros. slip on. Not sure if the cone has been cut off, or even the state of the air filter it has. Since this is my first 929, I would like to know if anyone can recommend some initial mods, or routine maintenance I need to be concerned with?

OIL is a must,tires,check the condition of the chain and sprockets and initially how does the bike sound/run did you get to ride it before you purchased it

 

check the tires and their pressure, change plugs, oil, and filters. Grease the chain. The best mods in my opinion is set the suspension to your weight and braided lines possibly a damper.

 

Suspension; now that's a whole new topic. When I test rode the bike the suspension felt pretty soft. I think I've probably got about 20 or 30 pounds on the previous owner. I'm clueless as to suspension adjustment on a 929. I've tuned and tweeked the suspension on my quad, but I know that suspension is a totally different story when on 2 wheels and on the street. any resommendations on oil brand, weight, and whether or not to use full synthetic or blend?

if you don't know what you're doing with the suspension take it somewhere that does. Its not worth it trying it yourself. I believe 10w40 and I just use standard Honda oil.
