definitely take the throttle bodies off, but the engine can rest on the head no problems. i find that using a nice pair of needle nose pliers and holding the throttle open with your hands makes it easy to get the cables back on
as far as making your own tool for the swingarm - nothing wrong with that. i know i'm probably in the minority of mechanics here when i say this, but when it comes to stuff like swingarm mounts, engine mounts, rear axle, etc. - i'm a "just get it f'in tight" guy. i don't follow the torque specs for those. however, everything else (engine wise, brakes, suspension) i do follow the manual specs. so if you make your own tool for the swingarm, i wouldn't worry about the torque spec you get it back to. just kind of judge it. and remember you have pinch bolts on there to help.
i tried making my own tool at ace hardware out of 24mm nuts and what not - for some reason i couldn't get it to work... can't remember exactly why. good work going on there btw

Okay one guy said that i HAVE to get the stretch bolts from the dealer, look at this link for me and tell me if you see the stretch bolts plz Conrice. number 11, 12, and 13 look like them to me. on the diagram to the right

Yea I got worried for a minute when I thought I was gonna have to pay 80 bucks for the bolts. I bought my tranny today 160 bucks off ebay shipped with 9K on it in great shape so I'm excited and ready to ride. Oh and can I use the indian gasket on the covers or do I need to get the actual gasket? And what is the best inexpensive chain brand wise to get and where is the best place to find em? I found some on bike bandit, 108 links but what pitch do I need.
By the way all 10 stretch bolts= 47 bucks beats the hell outta 80
So far this i what i have in the trans rebuild
4 Qts Mobile 1 4T 10W-40- $40
K & N Oil Filter- $15
Transmission- $160
Stretch Bolts- $47
Gasket Sealer/Silicone-$10
At a grand total of $272 give or take a dollar or so. Not Bad At All.

are you keeping the sprockets? then it depends on what the sprockets are... 520 or 530.
i'd get the cheapest oil you can... because you should only put about 200 miles or so on the first oil, then change it.
