same dyno, same bike, same day

stock gearing dyno'd highest (150.1hp)

-1/+2 lost a few hp(-2hp)

-1/+5 lost the most hp (-4.5hp)

it makes sense if you think about it. when you dyno a bike - you don't dyno it in first gear.... you dyno it is your highest gear. and that's because it gives you the most hp - and your motor is doing the most work. if your motor can do less work (like with different sprockets) you'll dyno less hp. interesting story
I'd be interested to see the torque numbers on those dyno pulls....I bet they're a bit higher than stock.

under the same logic, they'd be lower too. thats why you do your power runs in an upper gear. the engine is then under the most load, so that's when its doing the most work - so torque would/should follow suit

but they didnt have those numbers in that article, just the hp numbers

edit- but lets be clear, this is JUST for numbers on a dyno. that's not saying that your bike makes more hp with a smaller rear sprocket. it just registers higher readings. if torque registered higher in lower gears (motors under less load), you'd see diesels doing their runs in a low gear, but they don't - they do them all in high gears. and while they do care about hp, the thing they tend to brag about is how much damn torque their trucks make.

I always thought they dynoed vehicles in the gear that is closest to 1:1 ratio (usually 4th gear for a manual). Not sure what gear that would be for bikes.
