Default probably a stupid question

hey guys (and ladies?),
new 929 rider here! i got what potentially could be a really stupid question, but who cares we all got them sometimes so here it is.
i just bought a 929 (second bike) and i noticed the sticker on the right side of the bike with the engine number and what-not, well i noticed on the sticker the model said cbr900 and not cbr929, yet the make year was 2001.

so now im thinking that its really not a 929, or possibly some misunderstanding? unsure of whether or not the 929 actually has 929cc's, or if i bought a 900 with 929 fairings... but the model year was '01, so i was thinkingthe frame is just compatable with the 929's. i know the 929's and the 954's are parts are mostly compatable... but i havnt heard the same for the 900's.

either way im confused and cant find the answer, and all of my buddies dont ride so im left posting what might be considered a dumb question to everyone else

sorry guys and thanks

It's a 929,that's just the way Honda puts it on that sticker,if it bothers you just peel it off..........That's what most guys do anyway.....

Both the 929 and 954 say " cbr 900RR " on the vin tag and an original erion 929 will say "cbr 900 RE"
thats definetly a 929, Congrats, good luck and welcome to the cbrforum family.

I wondered the same thing after I bought my '00. It is a 929. If it makes you feel better, look on the right side of the engine. You will see "929cc" cast into it.

Hi ..

They say there is no such thing as a dumb question :-)

Honda sold these bike across the world, where they are known as "FireBlades" (note the big "F" and "B"), the first of these was the CBR900RR of 1992 (engine size: 893cc). Over the years the engine grew, first to 918cc, then 929cc and finally to 954cc, yet these are all officially called 'CBR900RR'.

In North America, Honda marketed the bikes by their engine size, just to confuse matters. So, your '01 bike is offically called "CBR900RR RR1", marketed and branded as a "CBR929RR".

The change came in 2004 with the CBR1000RR called a "Fireblade" (retiring the "B" as an honor to Baba-san, the original designer -- the 954 was his last version).
