Throttle Grip Sticking
My throttle grip is sticking on my 1999 CBR 900RR. If I give my bike some throttle, the right grip will stay in that position. I have to manually twist the grip UP to lower the throttle. Any ideas?
SlavDog,
Could be a couple of things, but we need a little more info, have you changed you grips? is everything orginal? more input would help because it could be anything from the new grips to cables that just need to be lubed. [
]Hope some of this will help you out.
let us know what you find out.

If your bike has ever tipped over and hit the ground, sometimes the handlebar weight will push in a little and tighten the grip, or the bar itself could be a little tweaked. Try loosening the weight first and see if that helps.
Grip rubbing against the bar end? I had to glue my aftermarket grips to keep them from sliding over time and rubbing against the bar end. It would hold the throttle open producing more friction than the throttle spring could overcome.
Well, I did an engine swap on my bike. I put a 1996 motor/carburetor into my 1999 CBR 900RR. I used the 96 throttle cables, but my 99 grip. I did notice that there was a little kink in on of the throttles right by where it fits into the grip... I sprayed WD-40 into the inside of the cables, but no difference.
SlavDog,
I would agree with a couple of the post up here, I hate to run out and buy a new part without checking and trying a couple of things first. So I would check out what SpiritRR has posted. [sm=goodidea.gif]
When I replaced my grips I had a little glue come out from the rubber on the bar end, I had put a little glue on the internal rubber because the bar end wouldn't tighten up enough. Bummer but after doing that the next day my throttle would not return as well. [sm=guilty.gif]So that was more towards what DMACK has posted.
But you also pointed out that you have found a little pinch in one of the cables up by the grip. As you well may know they are a push / pull cable system that's on your scoot. So you may need to replace the cable. [sm=imsorry.gif]But I sure would check what the others have posted before having to pull the cable off from the scoot. Hope all of the info here helps, let us know what you find.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

I shall let you know ZRX1 what happens after I try a few things that you all recommended. But I do have a more serious problem that I am trying to take care of first. Please search for the post titled CARBURETOR SEA FOAM/CARBURETOR CLEANER from SlavDog in the CBR 900 forum. Thank you!
P.S. Be gone to Hawaii Saturday through Wednesday, so I might not be able to reply until I come back.

SlavDog,
Damn shame you have to go and take off for the islands....... While most of us will be trying to stay warm..... But I sure understand and wouldn't change those plans come hell or high water.
Have a safe and great time..... besides don't worry someone around here will have your throttles fixed by the time you get back LMAO..
You will be lucky as I know a couple of guys here if they ride it you will need new parts when they get it back to you....[sm=gears.gif]
