Default Stator/Reg Question

i just installed new 1's about 3 months ago, i went to start my bike and it died right away them i put a brand new battery in cuz the onld one tested bad and it started but didnt charged, i realzied the wire harness was melted and i made a new 1, and now that i made a new 1 i hooked everything up, the reg. started to smoke a little bit and then i went to test the voltage and it read 12, when i reved up it it went to about 12.7, i found what was shorted out and all, and im pretty sure i need a new reg again, but do you think i fryed the stator as well?, the reg was really hot as soon as i shut the bike off, please let me know what you think

Default RE: Stator/Reg Question

From personal experience[:@]...
I find that the stators available on the aftermarket ( ie Rick's, Electrex, ect...) do not use the proper guage of wire on the stators, I have seen two fail very shortly after they were installed due to the fact that they cannot handle the heat generated by the electrical current and melt..causing the problem you have stated...
on my CBR900RR after the stator and electrical components were replaced with the FACTORY O.E.M. parts...no more problems. I know they cost more but at least they seem to last
I have seen this on a GSXR600 and my ld CBR900RR
Get the Honda stuff!!!!

Well the reg/rec either works or it doesnt...so if you can check the charging system and it is charging, then it is probally ok...but the fact that it was smoking would make me a little leary and probally replace it to ensure that I do not get stuck in the middle of nowhere

the stator just produces the power..the regulator/rectifier "regulates" the power ( think of it as a fuse to protect your battery which can explode if it is overcharged!!)
