Default Really rough 1st-2nd shift. HELP!!!!

I finally got to get out for a short ride a couple of days ago, and about 50 % of the shifts from 1-2 past neutral are as hard and noisy as neutral to first gear is. The rest of the time, it's silky smooth....hardly even a click. The rest of the gears are nice and smooth. It doesn't seem to have any constant factors. RPM's, temp, etc. Just random from what i noticed. I changed the oil a couple of days before I rode it, but did nothing different than any other time. Seems like this just appeared overnight.
I really love this bike, but I swear, if this keeps up, I'm gonna have to trade her in on a newer model. It would be a shame, I love owning something no one else has locally. Every other 900rr I've seen in the state has been customized or had the %$##@ beaten out of it.

Any help or info is very much appreciated.

Bobby

Check the clutch cable and make sure it is adjusted correctly if its only doing it 50% of the time i would start there. ALPHA

I forgot to mention that. The clutch seems to be adjusted properly and engaging/dis-engaging fine. I'm going to mess with it this morning, but if I can't fix it, I guess I'm gonna have to start taking things apart.[:@]

Seriously. I think collector value for a clean original RR will get serious within ten years...but I'm never selling.

Sorry, I have no quick fix for the gear trouble. I would start with the springs, however, and then the rest of the clutch mechanism before dropping the oil pan and checking the internals...

And if you do trade it in, damn, the new 1000RR sure is sweet and sexy...I'm gonna go read all about it again in Motorcyclist. Good luck TAT.
