Default Oil Temps

Do any of your guys know what oil temps you run? I was hitting 230F (oil) yesterday with an outside temp of 95F. My water temp was a steady 185F, which I thought would be higher because the oil got so hot.

All this was after driving at 7K rpms in 6th for 10 minutes or so. Any ideas?

Doesnt sound out of line to me. Oil is bound to get substancially hotter than the water as it has a VERY tiny radiator comparitably speaking. 95 out and you were moving........185 sounds good too. I dont know exactly what my oil temp is.......but comparing it to my race car..........it sounds pretty good.

What's your race car oil temps?

I think I panicked because I thought oil broke down at 230F. I still think I'm going to switch to Redline (because it is easy to find). Any suggestions as to the type? Is it the normal or race oil I buy?

Oil is a good question. . .since by bike is a 96, I don't have a meter for oil temp. I use standard 10w40 Valvoline car oil with no clutch problems, but I'm pretty sure that my bike gets a bit hotter than my cars and using a standard oil bothers me a bit since I have a lead hand and have, on many occasions, spent considerable amounts of time near red-line. What *SHOULD* I be using?
