Thumbs up Blade FZR Union

Hi Guys
After much deliberation and a few beers i've decided to embark on the FZR - Blade union.
Although the FZR is a great little bike and handles pretty good, a tuned one is notoriously fragile (over 75hp) and as i no longer wish to race mine
i thought it could be a good track/test bike, if only it were lazier and a bit more torquey.
I will try this with the minimum of outside help to see if this is possible to the average bod with a garage armed with a few tools and some time to mess about!
The FZR is a 400 RRSP chassis and the blade is a 98 RR, this apparently is the closest match for frame brackets.
Here goes then ......

The FZR..... I've pulled the lump out and removed the basic bits to reveal the frame but left the wheels and stuff on as i haven't got a fancy lift and it might help me move it about ..

Ok most of tonight was spent messing around stripping the blade lump out but did manage to
Get it up onto a box which wasn’t too far from the eventual height and shifted under the chassis.
Straight away it was obvious that the original FZR upper frame brackets were too narrow and the off side bottom bracket was also out of place…. My Dad always told me that if you really need to get somewhere and your determined no matter how tough the road the only way to be sure you won’t turn back in the face of obstacles is to burn all the bridges behind you…
SO OUT CAME THE GRINDER!

Some parts I’ve kept to remodel and use for the new positions but all those bits above are destined for the bin .... No turning back now !

Just in case anyone is interested i've shown which ones have been removed.

Hi all, This weekend was quite productive, done a fair bit of offering up, measuring and getting handy with the mallet. The Blade head is just tight inside the FZR frame rails so a little persuading and it was coaxed into place.

The fit seemed pretty good although there isn't a spare cm anywhere.. only problem i can see so far is the front sprocket is roughly 10 mm too far out to line up
Anyway i'll worry about that later now to rip everything off the frame and get the brackets made up and welded in place

I’ve kept the motor in the frame just to make sure everything is in line then tack the brackets on when i've made something out of the originals i cut off....
Then i'll strip the frame completely and weld it all up 100%
Keep you posted

Dino

Ok I’ve managed to cut up the original brackets and have welded them up in position
The fit all looks good except the line up of the sprocket and the motor can’t move Over any further due to the clearance inside the frame rails.
Am looking at removing the output shaft and seeing if it might be altered to get the sprocket Tighter toward the motor. In the meantime I’ll put the chassis together and see what else Needs looking at.
